Gold Rips 2%, Tech Bleeds, and the Tape Tells a Clear Story
SPX closed green but tech dragged while gold, materials, and health led. The session had a clear rotation story — here's how I graded the day and what I'm watching tomorrow.

Live tape — what this brief is about
Decent day overall, but the index number is misleading. SPX +0.33% sounds fine until you realize tech was -0.58% and energy cratered -1.61% while gold ran 2.10% and silver tacked on 3.16%. This was a rotation day, not a risk-on day, and I think that distinction matters heading into tomorrow.
On my radar
- OPK $1.67 — RVOL 23.7x but float is 746M. This is a battleship, not a speedboat. I didn't touch it today and I'm not chasing it tomorrow unless it builds a clean base above $1.60 with volume confirming.
- ERIC $10.41 — RVOL only 2.4x with a 3.3B float. The 8.66% move is real, catalyst-driven, but I need this float to thin out before I care. Watching $10.00 as a re-entry support if it pulls back cleanly.
Levels I care about
- SPX $7,700 is the line I'm defending on the long side — a close below that tomorrow opens the door to $7,640.
- Gold $4,194 just closed at session highs. A hold above $4,170 tomorrow keeps my bullion thesis very much intact.
- 10Y Yield at 5.089% dropping nearly 2% today is what fueled finance and REITs. If yields stabilize or bounce, that rotation unwinds fast.
- DXY 102 softening here is gold's fuel — watching this closely.
How I'm positioned
Fear & Greed sitting at 32 (Fear) while gold rips and SPX holds. That's actually a constructive setup for my longer-term bullion positions — I'm holding my full gold allocation with a stop below $4,120. Silver's move today was sharp; I'm not adding here, I'll wait for a one-day pullback to $56.50 before sizing up. BTC at $82,322 with Crypto Fear & Greed at Neutral — no changes there, holding my core position. The scanner flagged zero qualified setups out of 463 tickers, which tells me the small-cap tape is dead right now. No day trades today was the right call. Tomorrow I'm watching the open reaction in tech and whether yields tick back up — that's the tell for whether today's rotation sticks or reverses.
