Fear & Greed Split, Gold Surging, BIRD Up 34% Pre-Market

Stock market sitting at Fear 27 while crypto hits Greed 72 — a rare divergence worth paying attention to. Gold pushing $4,241, crude cratering 3.76%, and BIRD is the morning's standout mover at +34%.

Mario's take

The overnight tape is telling two different stories at once: equities grinding higher on the surface while Fear & Greed sits at 27 (Fear) — that's a market climbing a wall of worry, not conviction. Meanwhile, BTC is up 2.33% with crypto Fear & Greed at 72 (Greed). I don't ignore that split. It means crypto is running on its own fuel right now, and I'm letting that ride.

On my radar
  • BIRD $3.49 — RVOL 13.2x, float 8.8M, catalyst-driven, up 33.72% pre-market. This is the cleanest setup on the board. I want to see it consolidate between $3.20–$3.35 in the first 15 minutes and then break with volume. Float this tight with a real catalyst is the recipe. My trigger is a hold above $3.40 after the open — anything under $3.00 invalidates it.
  • OM $3.75 — RVOL 6.9x, float 18.5M, pure momentum. Watching $3.60 as the key intraday support. No chase above $4.00 without a pullback first.
  • CTVA $12.57 — down 83.81% with RVOL 20.2x. That move is catastrophic and I'm not touching the short side this late in the flush. But I'm watching for a dead-cat bounce off $12.00 if it gets there.
Levels I care about
  • SPX $7,666 is where we are — I need to see it clear $7,700 cleanly to get more aggressive on longs. Below $7,620 and I'm cutting day trade size in half.
  • Gold $4,241 — this is a breakout continuation. My core bullion position is happy. $4,200 is now support; I'm not trimming unless we close below it.
  • Crude $89.38 down 3.76% — that's a significant unwind. Energy sector is somehow up 1.95% in equities, which is a disconnect I don't trust. Staying out of XLE today.
  • 10Y at 5.18% — that yield is elevated but the DXY dropping 0.23% is softening the pressure on risk assets.
How I'm positioned

I'm holding gold and silver long — both are moving exactly as expected with DXY weakness and elevated yields. BTC I added a small position earlier this week and I'm not touching it with crypto Fear & Greed at 72; that's getting frothy. No new crypto buys today.

For day trades, BIRD is my primary focus at the open. Half size until I see how the first 5-minute candle closes. If SPX can't hold $7,640 in the first hour, I'm going cash-heavy on the day trade book and letting the longer positions do the work. Payrolls data is always a Friday thing but today I'm watching any Fed speak for yield reaction — 5.18% on the 10Y is a number that can move fast.
