SPX Rips to $7,720 But the Tape Has a Crack in It
Tech and consumer are carrying the green, but the 10Y at 5.256% and gold/silver getting hit hard tell a different story under the surface. Power hour setups are thin.

Live tape — what this brief is about
Morning played out stronger than I expected on the index level, but I don't trust this rally. The 10Y yield at 5.256% is the loudest voice in the room right now — that's not a number that's friendly to risk assets long-term, and the fact that financials are red while SPX is up +0.71% tells me this is a narrow, tech-driven float. Fear & Greed sitting at 31 (Fear) while the index grinds higher is a disconnect I'm not ignoring.
On my radar
- CABO $12.13 +17.08%, float 5.7M, RVOL 1.0x — catalyst name with a tiny float. RVOL is too low for me to chase midday, but if volume picks up into power hour and it holds $11.75, I'm watching for a flag break above $12.50.
- BIRD $3.67 +5.30%, float 8.8M, RVOL 1.7x — cleaner momentum setup. I want to see it consolidate above $3.55 and reclaim $3.75 on volume before I size in.
- NNBR $4.08 +12.40%, float 77.1M — float is too large for the RVOL. This one's a pass for me.
Levels I care about
- SPX $7,700 is the line I'm watching into the close — below that and I think sellers show up fast toward $7,660.
- Gold $4,163 breaking down with the 10Y this elevated is a short-term bearish signal for my bullion position. $4,120 is the next support I care about.
- Crude $90.59 dropping -2.46% while nat gas catches a bid is a sector rotation signal — energy equities going nowhere confirms it.
How I'm positioned
I trimmed my gold position by 20% this morning when it cracked below $4,180 — I'm not panicking out, but I'm not adding into a falling knife with the dollar still elevated and yields screaming. BTC holding $85,300 is fine; crypto Fear & Greed at 72 (Greed) keeps me from adding there. Day trades are half-size today given the scanner had zero qualified names and the tape character feels headline-dependent. Into power hour I'm watching CABO for that volume trigger and keeping one eye on SPX $7,700. If that level holds, I do nothing. If it breaks, I add to my SPX put hedge.
