Tape Rotated Into Defensives — Power Hour Sets Up a Knife Fight

Morning session failed to hold early tech gains while health and materials got hammered. The 10Y at 5.27% is the story nobody wants to talk about heading into power hour.

Live tape — what this brief is about

today
Mario's take

The morning gave us a textbook yield-shock rotation — defensives and utilities bid, everything rate-sensitive getting sold. The 10Y at 5.272% is not a number you ignore. That's the real driver today, not the -0.28% SPX headline.

On my radar
  • SMMT $16.48 — RVOL 3.2x, float 797.8M. Too big a float for my usual playbook but the 200 SMA bounce with a catalyst is real. Want a clean hold above $16.00 into power hour before I touch it.
  • SANG $3.56 — RVOL 7.5x, float 33.3M. This is the cleanest float on the board today. Up barely 0.14% with that volume means something is coiling. $3.75 breakout or I walk away.
  • VACI $6.65 — RVOL only 1.5x so I'm not chasing, but the float at 31.3M keeps it on the screen. Needs volume to confirm above $6.80.
Levels I care about
  • SPX $7,620 is the line into close — lose that and sellers accelerate into the bell, I'm not buying that dip today.
  • Gold $4,187 holding its own against a stronger DXY is telling. $4,160 is my stop line on my bullion thesis.
  • 10Y at 5.30% is the tripwire — if yields push there before 4pm ET, expect tech to roll over hard off the +0.22% gain it's clinging to.
How I'm positioned

Stock Fear & Greed at 32 (Fear) while crypto greed sits at 73 — that disconnect is a signal. I'm not adding risk into a tape where health dropped over 1% and materials are getting crushed. My gold position is untouched. BTC I'm holding but not adding at $82,976 with that yield environment. Day trade sizing is at 60% normal today. If SPX can hold $7,620 through 3:30pm ET, I'll look at a small SANG scalp on volume confirmation — otherwise I'm flat into the close and watching.
