SPX Sliding Into Fear Zone — One Setup Worth Watching Pre-Open
Broad market is getting hit hard overnight with SPX down 0.77% and Consumer/Comms leading the bleed. LFCR is the only real scanner name worth tracking today.

Live tape — what this brief is about
SPX futures are soft across the board and the tape is ugly heading into the September 29 open — Financials down over 1%, Consumer down 1.4%, Comms off 1.6%. The 10Y yield sitting at 5.221% with the dollar ticking up is the core pressure point here, and the Fear & Greed Index at 34 (Fear) tells me this isn't a buy-the-dip morning.
On my radar
- LFCR $6.52 — RVOL 29.8x, float 37.5M, catalyst-driven move up 55%. I want to see it consolidate above $6.00 and form a tight flag before I touch it. Entry only on a clean break and hold above $6.75 with volume confirmation. This is the only long setup on the board worth risking capital on today.
- MX $3.79 — RVOL 4.9x, float 36.5M, up 14.8% on catalyst. Cleaner float story but RVOL isn't exciting enough for me to chase pre-market. Watching $3.50 as support — if it holds into the open I'll reassess.
- NU $12.23 — down 10% on catalyst, RVOL 2.2x. If the broader tape stays red and this can't reclaim $12.75, I'd consider a short scalp targeting $11.50.
Levels I care about
- SPX $7,600 is the first real support — break and close below that opens the door to $7,520.
- Gold $4,187 holding well relative to equities. My add-on level is $4,150 on any intraday dip.
- Crude $90.49 dropping hard while Energy equities are up 0.10% — that divergence doesn't hold long. I'm staying out of XLE.
- 10Y at 5.221% — if this pushes toward 5.30% today, expect another leg down in Tech and Financials.
How I'm positioned
Crypto Fear & Greed at 73 (Greed) while BTC ticks up 1% is an interesting split from equities. I'm not adding to BTC here — that divergence between crypto sentiment and stock market fear usually closes violently in one direction. Holding my BTC position but not sizing up.
Gold I'm holding through this. The 10Y/gold relationship is behaving exactly how I expected — real yields aren't killing bullion yet, and $4,150 is my add level.
Day trades today are half-size until SPX shows me a defined range. If LFCR holds $6.00 into the open and builds a flag, that's my one actionable long. Everything else I'm watching from the sideline until the tape settles.
