Ugly Tape, One Bright Spot, Eyes on Tomorrow

SPX dropped 1.21%, gold cratered 2.64%, BTC slid 3.19% — but BHVN ripped 26% and my energy short is printing.

Mario's take

Rough session across the board. Tech led the bleed at -3.35%, precious metals got wrecked, and the Fear & Greed Index hit 18 (Extreme Fear) — a level I take seriously as a contrarian signal, but not a buy signal yet. The one thing I got right today: staying out of the crowded gold trade this morning.

On my radar
  • BHVN $14.87 — +26.55%, RVOL 13.3x, float 151M. This was the only real runner today. I missed the entry but I'm watching for a next-day continuation setup above $15.20 with a hard stop at $14.40. Catalyst-driven, so it needs volume confirmation at open.
  • INIO $15.11 — -10.43%, RVOL 1.9x. Catalyst on the short side. If it opens weak and can't reclaim $15.50, this could press further toward $13.80. Adding to my watchlist for tomorrow's open.
  • NOK $8.25 — -10.81% on catalyst. Float is large so I'm not chasing the short, but $8.50 is my line — below that after any bounce and it stays on the short radar.
Levels I care about
  • SPX $7,600 is now the key support — if we open below that tomorrow, I expect a flush toward $7,520.
  • Gold $4,000 is the psychological line. Today's -2.64% breakdown is significant; I'm not adding to bullion until it reclaims $4,080.
  • Crude $99.32 diverging hard from energy equities (ENERGY -0.93% while crude surged 2.23%) — that spread doesn't last. Watching XLE for a catch-up move or crude reversal.
How I'm positioned

I graded today a C+. Got the direction right on tech and metals being weak, but sized too small on the short side to make it matter. My gold position is underwater — I'm holding with a stop at $3,960, no averaging down. BTC dropped 3.19% but Crypto Fear & Greed is still at 68 (Greed), which tells me crypto traders haven't capitulated yet — that disconnect keeps me from adding.

Financials and utilities held up; I'm rotating a small slice of freed capital into XLU on tomorrow's open if we gap down again. Today's only win was avoiding new longs into a tape this ugly. Tomorrow I'm watching the first 30 minutes closely — if SPX can't hold $7,600, I'm adding to short exposure and cutting the gold position entirely.
