Energy Rips, Tech Bleeds, and the Tape Is Telling Me Something
SPX is grinding lower into midday with tech and materials leading the pain. Energy is the only real bid — and crude at $96 is forcing a sector rotation I'm not ignoring.
Live tape — what this brief is about
Morning came in exactly as messy as the setup suggested. Tech rolled over at the open, crude ripped 4%+ on no warning, and the tape rotated hard into energy while everything else leaked. This is not a buy-the-dip tape — it's a sector rotation tape, and I'm treating it that way.
On my radar
- UXIN $1.25 — RVOL 195.6x is insane but the float is 67B shares. That's not a momentum trade, that's a trap. Watching only to fade if it spikes into $1.40 with no volume follow-through.
- NXTC $5.08 — float of 4.1M is the cleanest story on the scanner. RVOL is light at 1.3x but a catalyst could ignite this fast. My trigger is a 5-minute consolidation above $5.00 with expanding volume into power hour.
- HAFN $8.78 — down 3.57% with a catalyst tag and RVOL 2.4x. If it loses $8.50 on volume, I'm looking at a short to $8.10.
Levels I care about
- SPX $7,620 is the line I'm watching into power hour — below that and I expect a flush toward $7,580 before any real buyers show up.
- Gold $4,250 is the next meaningful support. Today's -0.67% move with the 10Y at 5.158% is telling me real rates are biting hard.
- Crude $96 breaking higher through $97.50 would extend the energy bid and accelerate selling in TECH and INDUST into the close.
How I'm positioned
Fear & Greed at 34 (Fear) on equities while Crypto sits at 71 (Greed) — that divergence is one of the more interesting signals I've seen this week. I'm not chasing BTC here. My gold position is bleeding but I'm holding through $4,250 — that's my stop line, not a debate. Energy is working and I added a small XLE position at the open; stop is a close below $96 crude. Day trades are at half size — the tape character shifted from trending to choppy around 10:30am and I'm not fighting that. Going into power hour I'm watching NXTC for a clean entry and SPX $7,620 for a tell on whether sellers are done or just resting.
