BTC Rips 5% While Stocks Flatline — Fear Split Is the Story
Bitcoin is up 5% overnight while SPX barely moves and the Fear & Greed Index sits at 29. That divergence tells me exactly where risk appetite is hiding — and it's not in equities.
Live tape — what this brief is about
Bitcoin is doing the heavy lifting this morning and the stock market is not keeping up. SPX is up a rounding error at +0.17% while BTC just cleared $85,309 on a +5.11% overnight move. The CNN Fear & Greed Index is at 29 (Fear) for stocks while Crypto Fear & Greed is at 70 (Greed) — that's a hard split, and it tells me institutions are rotating risk appetite into crypto, not equities right now.
On my radar
- PRPL $3.19 — RVOL 11.1x, float only 4.4M. This is the cleanest setup on the board. Up +34% pre-market with a micro float. I want to see it consolidate and hold $2.95 on any early flush before I touch it. If it loses that level I'm staying out.
- GEMI $5.81 — RVOL 7.6x, float 126.3M. The float is too big for me to chase this move but I'm watching for a backside short setup if it fades below $5.40 with volume confirmation.
- GENI $5.64 — RVOL 3.6x, down -13%. Short side interest. Below $5.50 I'd look for continuation to $5.10.
Levels I care about
- SPX $7,600 is my floor watch — if we crack that intraday I expect a quick test of $7,555.
- Gold $4,350 is where I'd add to my bullion position on any continued pullback from today's -0.66% dip.
- Crude at $93.41 breaking $92.50 would put real pressure on energy names — ENERGY sector already negative pre-market and I'm not touching XLE today.
- 10Y yield at 4.957% is the macro friction point — anything above 5.0% this session puts pressure on REIT and UTIL, both already down over -1.4%.
How I'm positioned
I added to my BTC position two days ago and this morning's move is validating that. I'm holding through $82,000 as my stop — I'm not selling a 5% overnight rip into strength. Gold is pulling back and I'm letting it. My target add level is $4,350; until it gets there I sit on my hands with bullion.
On the day-trade side, PRPL is the only name I'm seriously watching. Float of 4.4M with RVOL at 11x is exactly my setup — but I'm sizing at half my normal risk given the Fear & Greed split and the broader tape uncertainty. If PRPL holds $2.95 in the first 15 minutes I'm in with a stop at $2.75. Today's action: BTC hold, gold watch, PRPL or nothing.
