BTC Rips 6%, SPX Flatlines, and the Scanner Came Up Empty
Bitcoin posted its best single-day move in weeks while the S&P barely budged. The scanner flagged zero qualified setups — here's how I graded the day and what I'm stalking tomorrow.
Live tape — what this brief is about
Flat tape, loud crypto, and a scanner that whiffed on every qualifier. Not every session is a trading day — today was one of the ones where the right move was to sit on your hands.
On my radar
- GEMI $5.79 — up 30.7% on catalyst, RVOL 4.9x, float 126.3M. That float is too heavy for a clean continuation move. I want to see it compress and retest $5.20 before I touch it tomorrow.
- DSP $11.91 — 18.9% move, RVOL 5.6x, float 65.5M. Cleaner float story. If this holds $11.40 overnight and gaps flat tomorrow, I'm watching for a morning flag above $12.10.
- GENI $5.63 — down 13.2%, RVOL 3.2x. Short-side setup if it bounces into $5.85–$6.00 tomorrow. That's where I'd look to fade a dead-cat pop.
Levels I care about
- SPX $7,600 is the floor I need to hold. We're sitting at $7,646 — that cushion is thin with the 10Y at 4.998% and nudging 5%. A clean break above 5% on the yield could drag this index fast.
- Gold $4,400 is the line. We closed at $4,419 — I'm not adding here but I'm not selling either.
- BTC $78,500 is my stop-loss anchor on my Bitcoin position. A 6.35% day is great but Fear & Greed at 56 (Greed) after coming from the floor means I tighten, not size up.
How I'm positioned
Stock Fear & Greed sitting at 29 (Fear) while BTC runs is an interesting divergence — equity investors are nervous but crypto traders are feeling themselves. I'll take that signal seriously and not chase either side. My BTC position is up nicely; I'm raising my mental stop to $78,500 and not adding. Gold and silver held well today — silver up 1.32% is a quiet confirmation I like. I'm holding both with no changes. Day trade sizing stays at half-normal until SPX gives me a clean directional move off $7,600. Tomorrow I'm watching the open in DSP for a flag setup and monitoring GENI for a dead-cat fade. If the 10Y cracks 5.00% at the open, I'm stepping away from longs entirely for the morning session.
