Tape Rotates Into Energy While Consumer and Utilities Get Crushed

SPX is grinding lower mid-session with rate pressure biting the rate-sensitives hard. Energy is the only sector with legs — and my scanner found one real setup worth watching into power hour.

Live tape — what this brief is about

today
Mario's take

The morning gap-down held the line initially, but the 10Y pushing 4.841% is bleeding out Utilities, REITs, and Consumer names in real time. This isn't a random red tape — it's a rates story, and the rotation is speaking clearly: energy wins, everything yield-sensitive loses.

On my radar
  • SST $5.00 — up 30.55%, RVOL 3.5x, float only 10M. Best name on the board today. Want to see it consolidate above $4.70 and give me a clean flag. That float is tight enough to squeeze again into power hour.
  • BCRX $9.06 — down 8.99%, RVOL 3.8x. This one had a catalyst-driven flush this morning. Short thesis only valid below $9.50 with a target at $8.40. If it reclaims $9.50 on volume I'm out.
  • NKTX $3.23RVOL 3.0x, float 71.5M. Less clean than SST but still on watch above $3.10. Not a high-conviction add unless the broader tape stabilizes.
Levels I care about
  • SPX $7,600 is the number I'm watching into the close — break that and I expect a flush toward $7,540 before any real buyers step in.
  • Crude $96.46 up nearly 3.7% is the macro story of the day. XLE longs are working. I'd be adding energy exposure on any pullback toward $94.50.
  • Gold $4,447 is holding its trend quietly while Silver is outperforming at +1.43% — that spread usually means the metals complex is heating up.
How I'm positioned

Stock Fear & Greed sitting at 41 (Fear) while Crypto sits at 66 (Greed) — that divergence is interesting and I'm not ignoring it. BTC at $78,587 with a positive tick is a quiet tell while equities sell off. I trimmed half my consumer discretionary exposure at the open when CONSUM started printing red — that worked. Holding my gold position through any dip to $4,410, stop is firm below $4,380. SST is the only day trade I'm sizing into today — half position now at market, adding only if it holds $4.70 in the next 30 minutes. Not touching PTON or STUB — the RVOL isn't there for a clean short entry.
