Risk-Off Wednesday: 10Y at 5.11% Is Doing the Heavy Lifting
The 10-year yield hit 5.114% and the tape responded exactly how you'd expect — everything rate-sensitive got hit hard. Here's how I graded the day and what I'm watching tomorrow.
Live tape — what this brief is about
The bond market ran the show today. 10Y at 5.114% is not a rounding error — that's a threshold level that reprices equities, hammers REITs and utilities, and sends capital hunting for the dollar. DXY up 0.50% to 101.105 confirmed the rotation. This was a fundamentally driven selloff, not panic, and that's actually more dangerous because it's slower and stickier.
On my radar
- EGHT $2.29 — up 22.46% on RVOL 3.3x, float 141.8M. Too large a float to chase same-day, but if it consolidates above $2.10 overnight, the morning pop setup is real. Watching premarket volume.
- NNBR $3.75 — +11.94% on a catalyst with RVOL 3.9x and a tighter float at 77.1M. This is the cleaner story. I want to see it hold $3.55 on any open flush. That's my entry trigger.
Levels I care about
- SPX $7,703 closed under what I was treating as near-term support. Next meaningful floor is $7,640 — that's where I start looking for a bounce or a crack.
- Gold $4,319 gave back 1.30% with silver down 2.71%. Dollar strength is the culprit. My bullion thesis is intact above $4,250 but I'm not adding here.
- Crude $92.65 ripping +2.35% while everything else bled is a signal. Energy was the only sector that showed up. XLE is worth a look if crude holds $91.
How I'm positioned
Stock Fear & Greed at 35 (Fear) while crypto sits at 71 (Greed) — that divergence is wild and I don't trust it. BTC at $84,530 after a nearly 2% drop and the crypto crowd is still greedy? That's a fade setup building, not a buy.
I graded today a C+. I stayed out of consumer and utilities, which was right. I missed the crude/energy move — that one stings. My gold position is sitting on a small loss intraday but I'm holding above $4,250 with no add. Tomorrow I'm focused on NNBR at the open and watching whether SPX can reclaim $7,740 in the first 30 minutes. If it can't, I'm sitting on my hands until the afternoon.
