10Y at 5.08% Is Running the Show — Energy the Only Bright Spot

The morning sold off broad as the 10-year yield hit 5.077% and crushed rate-sensitive sectors. Energy is the lone winner — here's what I'm watching into power hour.

Mario's take

The yield move is the story today. 10-year at 5.077% is not a rounding error — that's the real driver behind utilities getting wrecked -1.65%, consumer discretionary sliding -1.42%, and tech dragging -0.69%. The morning open faked a bounce and then rolled. Tape character has shifted defensive, and energy is the only sector the market is willing to buy.

On my radar
  • NNBR $3.75RVOL 3.9x, float 77.1M, catalyst + momentum flag. This one triggered early but I want a clean pullback to $3.50 before I touch it. Float is workable, RVOL is real, but chasing here into a risk-off tape is sloppy.
  • JELD $1.84RVOL only 2.4x on 86.2M float. This doesn't qualify for me at current RVOL. Watching it but not touching unless volume spikes to 4x+ into the afternoon.
Levels I care about
  • SPX $7,700 is the floor I'm watching — lose that and I think we test $7,650 before the close.
  • Gold $4,320 failing to hold its morning lows is a problem. If it breaks $4,300, the safe-haven bid is gone and that's bearish everything.
  • Crude $92.56 is the bright spot and it's confirming energy stays bid — $91.00 is the level that flips that trade.
How I'm positioned

Fear & Greed sitting at 36 (Fear) while Crypto F&G is at 71 (Greed) — that disconnect is wild and I don't trust either read right now. BTC at $84,057 breaking down while crypto sentiment is greedy tells me the retail crowd is offside. I'm not adding BTC here.

My gold position is uncomfortable but I'm holding through $4,300 as my hard stop — below that I trim 50%. Energy is the only long I want new exposure to into power hour, so I'm watching XLE for a dip entry near $91 crude. Day trade size stays at 75% normal risk until SPX shows me a clear direction off $7,700.
