Flat SPX Hides Real Pain — Finance Bleeds, Materials Run

SPX closed flat but the internals were ugly. Finance got hit hard, crude cratered, and my scanner flagged three names that ran clean. Here's how the day graded out.

Mario's take

SPX +0.04% is the kind of number that looks calm on a chart and lies to your face. Underneath it, Financials dropped -1.95%, Energy shed -0.94% on a crude -3.57% flush, and the only real winners were Materials at +1.75% and Tech at +0.73%. The divergence between stock Fear & Greed at 36 (Fear) and Crypto Fear & Greed at 78 (Extreme Greed) is one of the stranger setups I've seen this year — two completely different animals living in the same macro environment.

On my radar
  • FIRY $13.21 +23.41%, RVOL 4.4x, float 15.6M — cleanest name on the scanner today. Ran with conviction and that float won't absorb much selling pressure. Watching for a gap-and-go setup tomorrow above $13.50 with a stop under $12.80.
  • SPRO $1.34 +17.63%, RVOL 17.8x, float 57.9M — catalyst-driven, massive RVOL. This one's lotto-tier. If it consolidates above $1.20 overnight I'm looking at a small opening pop trade only.
  • BFLY $9.79 +20.21%, RVOL 2.7x, float 261.6M — float is too big for my typical setup but the catalyst matters here. Watching $9.50 as the line; below that and this fades hard.
Levels I care about
  • SPX $7,768 held today but the 10Y yield at 4.968% is the real threat — a close above 5.0% tomorrow accelerates pressure on Financials and REITs.
  • Gold $4,407 continues to grind. $4,380 is my line for adding; above $4,430 and I expect a run toward $4,460.
  • Crude $89.07 breaking $88.50 opens a move to $86. Not touching XLE right now.
How I'm positioned

Gold long is sitting healthy, up on the week. Silver surprise today at +2.36% — I hold physical and that's staying put regardless of short-term swings. My BTC position is flat on the day; with Crypto Fear & Greed at 78 (Extreme Greed) I'm not adding here — that's a fade setup, not a chase. Financials got punished and I had no exposure there, which was the right call. Day trades were sized at half given the scanner flagged zero qualified tickers — tape wasn't worth pressing. Tomorrow I'm watching FIRY at the open for the first 15 minutes before touching anything.
