SPX Slips, Energy Craters, and the Scanner Went Quiet
A broad risk-off session with energy leading the selloff and the scanner qualifying zero tickers. Here's how the day graded out and what I'm watching tomorrow.
Live tape — what this brief is about
Rough tape today. SPX closed at $7,551.44 (-0.45%) and the session felt heavier than that number suggests — energy got absolutely wrecked, financials leaked, and the scanner came back with zero qualifiers out of 390 tickers scanned. That last part tells you everything about the quality of this market right now.
On my radar
- FEAM $1.75 — +39.29% on RVOL 12.9x, float 41.5M. Missed the move today but if it consolidates above $1.55 overnight, this is a gap-and-go candidate tomorrow morning. Catalyst unclear which is the risk.
- LUXE $8.78 — +22.80% on RVOL 12.9x, float 137.3M. Float is too wide for my usual setup but the CATALYST tag means there's a news driver. Watching the $8.20 level — that's where I'd consider an entry if it pulls back clean.
Levels I care about
- SPX $7,500 is the line I don't want to see broken. We're 50 points above it. A close below that flips my medium-term bias bearish and I start reducing index exposure aggressively.
- Gold $4,280 is the next support after today's -0.56% fade. The 10Y at 5.006% is the pressure point — yields this high are a direct headwind for bullion.
- Crude $102.00 dropping -3.62% in a single session is not noise. Energy sector down -2.87% confirms it. I'm staying away from XLE until crude finds footing above $104.
How I'm positioned
Fear & Greed is sitting at 26 (Fear) on equities while crypto holds neutral at 51 — that divergence is interesting and I'm not ignoring it. BTC at $75,990 (+0.53%) on a red equity day is a mild positive signal for crypto.
I grade today a C-. The scanner going to zero qualifiers means I sat on my hands all day on the day-trade side, which was the right call — forced trades in a dead scanner are how you give money back. My gold position is underwater on the day but I'm holding to $4,280 before I reassess. Bullion stop is firm there.
Tomorrow I'm watching the open on FEAM and LUXE for continuation setups in the first 30 minutes. If SPX can't reclaim $7,575 by noon, I'm trimming one of my index longs.
