Energy Rips While Everything Else Bleeds — Grading Tuesday
Crude up 4% dominated the tape. SPX slid to $7,580, the 10Y yield is knocking on 5%, and my scanner flagged VRA at RVOL 71.5x. Here's how the day landed.
Live tape — what this brief is about
Tuesday was a yield story. The 10Y pushing 4.996% sucked the oxygen out of tech, consumer, and utilities — and energy was the only place to hide with crude ripping +4.12% to $105.57. I'll give the day a C+. I saw the rotation coming but wasn't sized right in energy to fully capitalize.
On my radar
- VRA $4.11 — RVOL 71.5x, float 28.4M, up 35%. This is exactly the kind of low-float momentum name I live for. Missed the morning move but watching for a next-day continuation setup above $4.00. If it fades pre-market below $3.75, I'm not touching it.
- ALHC $10.38 — down nearly 20%, RVOL 5.9x. Short-side setup if it opens weak tomorrow and can't reclaim $10.75. Catalyst-driven flush like this rarely bounces clean on day two.
- TLX $12.84 — float unknown keeps my size small, but RVOL 3.4x with a catalyst warrants a watch. $12.40 is my line — below that it's a fade, not a follow.
Levels I care about
- SPX $7,540 is the next line of support — lose that and I think we test $7,490 fast given the yield pressure.
- 10Y at 5.00% is the psychological ceiling — if we breach and hold above, risk assets take another leg down.
- Crude $107 is the next resistance level. Above that and energy equities get a second wave of buying.
- Gold $4,300 is where I'd add to my bullion position on any dip.
How I'm positioned
Stock Fear & Greed at 29 (Fear) while crypto Fear & Greed sits at 69 (Greed) — that divergence is telling me something. BTC down 2.8% didn't follow crypto sentiment today, which I'm treating as a warning, not a dip-buy signal. I trimmed my BTC position by 15% into this weakness.
My energy longs are working — holding those through $104 crude as my stop line. Index funds untouched. Gold and silver core positions unchanged; silver's quiet outperformance today is a small green flag.
Tomorrow morning I'm setting alerts on VRA $4.00 and ALHC $10.75 before the open. If SPX futures are red overnight, I'm cutting day-trade size by half and letting the tape show me direction before I commit.
