SPX Near $7,750 But Gold and BTC Are Flashing a Warning
Equities are ripping pre-market led by Financials and Consumer, but the Dollar is up, gold is down hard, and BTC is losing ground. Something doesn't add up — here's how I'm navigating it.
Live tape — what this brief is about
Equities look great on the surface — SPX pushing $7,747 with Financials up +1.56% and Consumer up +1.39% — but the real story is what's happening underneath. Dollar up, gold down -2.45%, silver down -2.82%, BTC down -2.29%. That's a risk-off rotation dressed in risk-on clothes, and the 10Y yield at 4.792% is the culprit squeezing hard assets.
On my radar
- CHPT $9.08 — RVOL 89.8x, float 25.9M, clear catalyst. This is the cleanest setup on the board. Want to see it consolidate pre-market and hold $8.50 as the base. A clean flag into the open with volume drying up is my trigger for a long scalp targeting $10.50.
- DLTH $4.46 — RVOL 66.3x, float 38M. Tighter float than CHPT, lower price — more explosive if it holds $4.20 at the open. Watching for a 5-min hammer candle before I touch it.
- YQ $2.77 — RVOL 140.4x is eye-popping but the float is 542.8M. That kills the squeeze thesis. I'm watching it only as a fade candidate if it gaps up further and fails $3.00.
Levels I care about
- SPX $7,700 is my line — hold that and bulls stay in control. Lose it intraday and I expect a flush toward $7,640.
- Gold $4,400 is critical support. A close below that flips my short-term bullion bias cautious and I'll trim into strength.
- DXY 99.50 — if the Dollar breaks above that level, hard assets get hit again and I'm not adding anything commodity-related today.
How I'm positioned
Holding my gold position but with a mental stop at $4,380 — a two-day close below that and I'm cutting 40% of the position. BTC at $79,408 is testing patience; Crypto Fear & Greed sitting at 74 (Greed) while price dumps is a divergence I don't ignore. I'm not adding BTC here. Index positions stay on — SPX strength is real even if I don't love the macro backdrop. For day trades today, CHPT is my top target at the open. I'm sizing at 75% of normal given the mixed tape. First 15 minutes I'm hands-off — I'll let CHPT show me a level before I commit.
