Risk-On Tape, But My Scanner Came Up Empty — Here's Why

Broad market ripping with SPX up 1%+, BTC up 5%, and gold surging — but the small-cap scanner is a ghost town. Power hour setup is macro-driven, not momentum-driven today.

Mario's take

Morning session came in stronger than I expected across the board — SPX, crypto, and precious metals all catching a bid simultaneously while the dollar got crushed. That's a risk-on macro flush, and it's real. The problem for my day-trading book: the scanner printed zero qualifying setups out of 386 tickers scanned.

On my radar
  • GPRO $1.69 — up 37.4% on catalyst, RVOL only 3.4x on a 173M float. That's way too heavy for this kind of move. I'm watching it but not touching it unless it compresses into $1.55–$1.60 and rebuilds with tighter price action into power hour.
  • GROV $1.10 — cleanest float on the board at 42M, RVOL 6.3x, and it's holding the 50 SMA. This is the only one I'd consider. Need a consolidation above $1.05 and a volume surge past the morning high to get me interested.
  • PCG $13.33 — short side, catalyst-driven drop, RVOL 2x. $13.50 is the line — any failed reclaim there and I'm watching for continuation to $12.80.
Levels I care about
  • SPX $7,700 is now near-term support — a dip and hold there into the close is bullish continuation. Lose it and the morning gains look like a fade trap.
  • Gold $4,536 pushing toward $4,600 is the real story. DXY at 99 and falling is the fuel. I'm not fading this move.
  • BTC $81,339 with Crypto Fear & Greed at 65 (Greed) — diverging hard from the stock market's 35 (Fear). That spread is telling me something.
How I'm positioned

I have no active day trades right now — scanner didn't give me anything clean enough to size into. My longer-term gold position is working beautifully and I'm letting it run with my stop at $4,480. BTC I'm holding core and not adding into a 5% single-day rip. Into power hour I'm focused on GROV — if it gives me the setup above $1.05 with volume confirming, I'll take a small starter. Otherwise I'm sitting on my hands and letting the macro positions do the work today.
