Materials and Comms Lead, But the Scanner Is Screaming GPRO

SPX is holding gains but tech is flat and the tape is rotating hard. GPRO +40% with 17.7x RVOL is the only small-cap story worth watching into power hour.

Live tape — what this brief is about

today
Mario's take

Morning came in cleaner than I expected given the Fear & Greed sitting at 35 (Fear)SPX tagged +0.58% and has been grinding, not spiking. The rotation is real though: Materials up +1.73%, Comms up +1.74%, Finance up +1.02%, and tech is basically flat at -0.02%. That's not a bull market tape, that's a defensive rotation with a value tilt. I'm reading it as institutions repositioning, not retail chasing.

On my radar
  • GPRO $1.23RVOL 17.7x, float 173M, catalyst-driven +40.41%. Float is too fat for my ideal setup but the RVOL is undeniable. I want a clean hold above $1.10 and a flag before I touch it. Chasing at this level is how you get smoked.
  • FRVO $19.75RVOL 8.3x, float 294.6M, +28.41% with catalyst. Float is massive, so this is a momentum-only read. $18.50 has to hold or the move fades fast. Watching, not touching yet.
  • CMTG $1.47 — short-side, RVOL 4.9x, -7.55%. If it loses $1.40 on volume, this could see $1.25 before close. Small size only given the price level.
Levels I care about
  • SPX $7,620 is the line I'm defending on the long side — a flush there into power hour flips my bias.
  • Gold $4,400 is holding as support. The $4,415 print is constructive; I'm not adding but I'm not trimming either.
  • Crude $90.84 with nat gas up +2.31% — energy is quietly building. $92 on crude is the breakout level I'd act on.
How I'm positioned

Holding my gold position through this grind — $4,400 is my mental stop, not a hard one yet. BTC at $77,250 with Crypto Fear & Greed at 63 (Greed) is a disconnect I don't love; crypto is pricing in more optimism than equities are. I'm not adding BTC here. Day trade sizing is at 75% normal given the scanner came up empty on qualified names this morning — zero out of 386 is the tape telling me liquidity is thin on the small-cap side. Into power hour I'm watching GPRO for a flag entry above $1.10 with a hard stop at $0.98, and I'll reassess SPX at $7,620 in the last 30 minutes.
