Crude Spikes 2.7%, Tech Fades Hard — Power Hour Setup Shifts
Morning session sold off growth and punished consumers while energy caught a bid. Here's what I'm watching into the 2–4pm window.
Live tape — what this brief is about
Morning came in exactly as the sector rotation implied it would — defensives and energy holding, tech and consumer getting hit. The tape character has shifted from risk-on to selective. This isn't a panic, but it's not a buy-everything dip either.
On my radar
- SST $2.24 — RVOL 20.4x, float 10M, catalyst-driven. This is the cleanest small-cap setup on the scanner. I want to see it hold $2.10 and consolidate before any add. If it breaks that level on volume, I'm out.
- GPRK $11.00 — RVOL 7x, float 64.9M, momentum only. Larger float means slower moves. $10.50 is my line — below that this is just noise.
- PCG $13.27 — down 20% on RVOL 4.7x with a catalyst. This is a short watch into power hour. Any dead-cat bounce into $13.80–$14.00 is where I'd consider a short entry with a tight stop above $14.20.
Levels I care about
- SPX $7,620 is the number I'm watching — that's where morning support held. A break there into close opens a move toward $7,580.
- Gold $4,415 giving back nearly 1.5% while crude rips 2.7% tells me the dollar bid (DXY 99.62) is doing real work today. My bullion thesis stays intact above $4,350.
- Crude $88.10 breaking above $88.50 into close would be a meaningful energy continuation signal — I'm watching XLE as a proxy.
How I'm positioned
Consumer and tech weakness with a 10Y yield at 4.766% is not a setup I want to be long growth into. I trimmed my tech exposure at the open when SPX failed to hold flat. My gold position is untouched — a one-day pullback on dollar strength doesn't move my thesis. SST is on my active watch; I'm sizing at half normal risk given zero scanner qualifiers this morning. Into power hour I'm not adding anything new unless SST gives me a clean flag above $2.10 or PCG bounces into my short zone.
