Crude Rips While Everything Else Leaks — Here's My Line in the Sand
SPX is bleeding pre-market with broad sector weakness, but crude is up nearly 2% and energy is lagging — that disconnect is my first red flag. AOUT is the standout mover overnight and I'm watching it closely.
Live tape — what this brief is about
SPX is slipping pre-market, broad weakness is real, and the sector breakdown tells the story — Consumer, Health, and Comms are all down over 1% while only Tech and Industrials are holding. The Fear & Greed at 42 (Fear) is not extreme enough to call a flush, which makes this the dangerous middle ground where dip buyers get chopped up.
On my radar
- AOUT $14.48 — RVOL 65.5x, float 12.5M, up +44.66% overnight. This is the cleanest momentum setup on the board. I want to see it consolidate above $13.50 in the first 15 minutes and build a flag — if it does, I'm in with a stop at $12.80. Anything that gaps and immediately dumps gets ignored.
- EPRX $8.40 — RVOL 7.8x, float 65M, +12% overnight. Secondary play if AOUT is too extended. My trigger is a clean hold above $8.00 with a stop at $7.75.
- ASAN $8.81 — RVOL 3.5x, -12.69%, bouncing off the 200 SMA. I'll watch for a dead-cat rejection at $9.20 — that's my short trigger with a cover target at $8.40.
Levels I care about
- SPX $7,700 is the line I'm defending — a clean break below that opens the door to $7,640 fast.
- Gold $4,441 is pulling back from highs; I'm not alarmed until we breach $4,380, which would threaten my longer-term thesis.
- Crude $93.14 ripping while Energy equities are down -0.87% is a disconnect — I'm staying out of XLE until those reconnect.
- BTC $78,382 with Crypto Fear & Greed at 69 (Greed) while price drops — that divergence is a warning I'm not ignoring.
How I'm positioned
I trimmed half my BTC position yesterday at $79,200 and I'm comfortable holding the remainder with a mental stop at $76,000. Gold I'm holding through this dip — nothing changes unless $4,380 breaks. Day trades today are sized at 50% normal risk until SPX shows me direction off $7,700. My one concrete action at the open: watch AOUT for the first 10-minute candle and make a decision — if it holds $13.50, I'm taking a starter position.
